PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
The house has many hidden treasures. It is ready to move into and live or work from. It is situated on 2000 square metres of land in beautiful countryside with an open field directly to the rear. The house comprises of 4 floors: An attic, a living floor, a cellar and an underground cellar. It is double glazed throughout the living area in genuine oak.The main area of the house is an eleven meter long room which is the Kitchen, Dining Room and Living Room all in one. It has oak beams throughout along with two giant fireplaces. An internal porch surrounds the front door. Real oak double glazing is throughout the living floor of the house. The kitchen is a fully fitted American style with a breakfast bar.
The cellars include original oak animal troughs and are particularly rustic. No work has been done on these areas and they are currently used as a chicken area and a workshop. These rooms have masses of potential for another living area or alternatively could be left as they are for working or storage space. There is also a hidden room, on the same level as the cellars which is completely stand-alone. The room has no internal access from the house but is accessed via an external door. It contains a particularly impressive fireplace.
The two underground cellars take up about half of the main house size and are accessed from within the cellar or a trapdoor in the workshop cellar. One was originally used for wine storage and the other may have been a piggery.
The attic is possibly the most impressive feature of the house. It is approximately 10m high with cathedral-like wooden artistry holding the entire structure together. With the correct planning and execution it could be turned into a dream-like area.
The gardens are around half an acre and have been lovingly nurtured from a tangled mess into a garden to be proud of. Flower filled borders have been carefully cut out; a vegetable patch has been crafted in the perfect spot; an old ruin has been left to overgrow for a nature spot; all surrounded by a small, fast running, stream which constantly fills the air with the sound of running water. The garden has many fantastic spots to sit and take in the natural beauty surrounding you.
The small village of St Oradoux de Chirouze is part of the commune by the same name which embraces a number of small villages. The total population of St Oradoux de Chirouze, the commune, is 72. This is spread over maybe 100 square kilometres. This leads to a very friendly close-knit commune that has annual New Year dinners and a summer fete. The towns-folk are extremely friendly. We are
1km from a 64 hectare carp lake. The lake is extremely beautiful and has a beach where a small number of people go and relax in the summer. There is a local restaurant opposite the lake if you fancy some traditional French cuisine. The house is at approximately 800m altitude and is around 45 minute drive from skiing at Mont Dore.
The summer reaches temperatures up to 40°C and the winter reach temperatures of down to -10°C. There are extremes where it gets higher or lower. The house with it's meter thick walls makes for a very cool spot in the summer if you need to get away from the heat or a cozy nest in the winter when you need to get away from the cold. The house is heated via a log burning stove.
